Honduras: Resilient, Rich, and Ready to Be Your New Favorite Single Origin Coffee
Honduras may have been a quiet contender in the coffee world for years—but not anymore. Today, it’s a top producer of vibrant, full-bodied Single Origin Coffee that’s quickly earning global respect. With high-altitude farms, passionate smallholder growers, and complex flavor profiles, Honduran coffee is a hidden gem ready to shine.
At The Mocha Collective, we believe in sharing coffee with roots—both in the land and the lives of those who grow it. Honduras delivers both in every cup.
How Coffee Came to Honduras
Coffee first arrived in Honduras in the 18th century, but it wasn’t until the mid-1900s that it became a key export crop. For years, Honduran coffee struggled with infrastructure issues—roads, drying facilities, and processing standards were inconsistent.
But that changed dramatically in the 2000s. Investments in training, processing stations, and cooperatives helped elevate Honduran coffee to specialty-grade status. Today, Honduras is one of the largest coffee producers in Central America and a powerhouse in quality micro-lots and traceable cooperatives.
Marcala: A Region Known for Excellence
Our Honduran beans come from Marcala, located in the La Paz department, a region known for producing some of the country's best specialty coffee. Grown at elevations between 1,300 and 1,700 meters, this coffee thrives in the region’s clay mineral soil, cool nights, and sunny mountain slopes.
We source directly from the Café Organics Marcala cooperative, a collective of more than 1,500 smallholder farmers committed to quality and sustainability. These farmers grow heirloom and hybrid varietals like Bourbon, Catuai, Caturra, Lempira, and Typica—a diversity that adds nuance and richness to the final cup.
What Makes Honduran Coffee Special?
Honduran Single Origin Coffee is known for its caramel sweetness, soft spice, and rounded body. It strikes a beautiful balance between complexity and comfort—bold enough for espresso lovers, yet smooth enough for pour-over purists.

Honduras in the Global Coffee Market
Honduras consistently ranks among the top 5 coffee-exporting countries in the world, with millions of bags exported each year. It’s also one of the fastest-growing producers of specialty-grade coffee, with strong infrastructure for farmer education, processing, and cooperative support.
Coffees from Marcala, Copán, and Santa Bárbara regularly place in Cup of Excellence competitions, proving Honduras can stand toe-to-toe with more widely known origins.
At The Mocha Collective, we’re proud to support cooperatives that invest in quality, transparency, and sustainability—so your cup feels as good as it tastes.
